Dolf and his wife Ingrid(not in the picture) started DOUBLE DUTCH in the early 80's, building slalom boats for the local market, mainly licensed designs from other canoe manufactures. Ingrid was a dab hand at inside seaming and seat making and kept Double Dutch going whilst Dolf was teaching a well known UK slalom manufacturer the tricks of vac bagging. Obsessed by trying to reduce the weight of our boats (there was no minimum weight in those days) we spent a lot of effort, time and money in finding ways to achieve this whilst maintaining the strength. Vacuum bag technology and advanced materials like carbon and Aramid fibers (Twaron or Kevlar), sandwich foams etc. were our tools to achieve that. Now, 20 years later, DOUBLE DUTCH is the absolute leader in light- weight, high strength kayaks, canoes and paddles, for competition as well as recreational paddling. All of our boats are built to the same high standard, using epoxy resin, vacuum bagging and oven cured. |
